🤖 Robot Liars: Can They Ever Be Forgiven? 🤔

Georgia Tech researchers developed a driving simulation to investigate how intentional robot deception affects trust. The researchers specifically examined the effectiveness of apologies in restoring trust after robots lie.

The robot assistant randomly assigned one of five text-based responses to participants, ranging from a simple apology to an explanatory admission of lying.

The results showed that an apology that does not admit to lying – simply saying "I'm sorry" – outperformed the other responses regarding restoring trust.

According to the researchers, ordinary technology users must understand that robotic deception is real and always a possibility.

Designers and technologists who create AI systems may have to decide whether they want their system to be deceptive, and they should be aware of the implications of their design decisions.

📹 Zoom Zooms Ahead with OpenAI Partnership

Zoom has announced that it will use OpenAI to expand the capabilities of its video communications platform, as well as its Zoom IQ smart companion, which summarizes chat threads and organizes ideas.

Zoom currently uses AI models developed by itself and other leading AI companies and select customers. It plans to customize its models based on unique vocabulary and requirements to improve performance.

New Zoom IQ features include chat and email compose features that suggest message content and a meeting summary generator.

Zoom also unveiled other innovations, such as Zoom Huddles, a virtual co-working space, and an Intelligent Director, which uses multiple cameras to determine the best angle for meeting participants.

⚖️ Regulators Take Action Against Investment Fraud ❌

Texas, Montana, and Alabama have filed a joint securities case against an artificial intelligence-related promotion (AI).

YieldTrust.ai has been served with a cease-and-desist order for allegedly soliciting investments tied to a decentralized application that claimed to use AI to trade digital assets and offer returns of 2.6% per day for four months.

The case exemplifies a growing trend of fraudulent investment offerings linked to artificial intelligence, which has become a hot topic in investing.

According to Grand View Research, the AI market will grow at a compound annual rate of 37% through 2030.

YieldTrust's website is currently unavailable; attempts to contact the entity for comment have been futile.
