🚗🚙 Charge Ahead: AI Predicts Grid Loads Using Traffic Patterns

Zurich University of Applied Sciences researchers have created an AI system capable of anticipating power grid loads using road and train traffic data.

The study, published in Energy Strategy Reviews, demonstrated that the AI model could forecast domestic electricity consumption up to six hours in advance by associating motions with leisure, work, and time spent at home.

Even though traffic data only modestly enhanced traditional consumption history-based models, it could be precious when consumption histories are missing or have lost predictive potential.

Aksornchan Chaianong, the study's leader, believes that traffic data will become increasingly valuable for predicting power consumption as electric mobility grows.

👎 Snapbot Fallout: Users Give My AI the Thumbs Down

Since its global rollout, Snapchat's new AI chatbot feature, "My AI," has received negative feedback and a rise in one-star ratings.

The OpenAI GPT-powered AI chatbot is pinned to the top of the app's Chat tab, where users cannot unpin, block, or remove it.

Many users have called the function intrusive, unpleasant, and unwelcome. Some have threatened to leave Snapchat and deactivate the app.

Snapchat's average U.S. App Store review has decreased to 1.67 in the last week, with 75% of reviews being one-star, compared to 3.05 with 35% one-star reviews in Q1 2023.

The firm has not committed to eliminating the AI, but it has stated that users who dislike the feature are not required to use it.

🚨 AI on Thin Ice: EU's AI Act Puts Generative Tech Under the Microscope 🔬

The Artificial Intelligence Act proposed by the European Union in April 2021 has the potential to significantly influence generative AI systems based on OpenAI's GPT technology.

The Act attempts to govern AI systems in the region and categorizes AI risk into three levels: unacceptable, high, and low.

Because of worries about the potential for misinformation, false news, and deepfakes, generative AI systems such as chatbots and AI-generated media may come under the "high risk" category.

If generative AI systems are designated high-risk, developers and providers will face strict legal obligations such as mandated conformity evaluations, transparency measures, and constant monitoring of the technology's performance.

The Act is still being drafted, and the final form may include significant changes based on comments from industry stakeholders and other parties.

🔒 ChatGPT Gets a Privacy Boost: Your Secrets are Safe(r) Now!

OpenAI is introducing ChatGPT users the option to restrict their interactions from being utilized in training the AI model, potentially boosting privacy protection for those who submit sensitive information with the chatbot.

Users can now disable chat histories by flipping a switch in their account settings. As a result, discussions will not be saved in ChatGPT's history sidebar, and the data will not be used to develop OpenAI's models.

While OpenAI's models will continue to be trained on user data by default, the new option gives consumers more control over how their data is utilized.

In the following months, the company intends to create a corporate subscription plan that will not use user data for training by default.
