🔗 The Missing Link in AI's Journey to Human-like Cognition?

A study from the University of Sheffield posits that artificial intelligence (AI) systems are more likely to develop human-like cognition if connected to the physical world through robotics and designed using evolutionary principles.

The research contends that current AI models, despite their large neural networks and capacity for error-based learning, are limited due to their lack of direct interaction with the physical world and the unique architectural configuration of biological brains.

The study emphasizes the need for artificial intelligence (AI) systems to implement architectures that learn and improve in a manner similar to the human brain, using real-world connections. Implementing robotics could provide these connections, enabling AI systems to perceive and react to their environment.

It also acknowledges the development of artificial intelligence for controlling robots, mainly through recurrent neural network models. However, it insists that significant improvement is still necessary to replicate the cognitive architecture of actual brains.

🪄 Google's Ad-vent in AI: A Game Changer for Brands?

Google has announced the release of two new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features designed to automate and optimize the placement of adverts across its services.

The 'Demand Gen' tool uses artificial intelligence to determine the most effective locations for photo and video advertisements across platforms such as Gmail, YouTube, and YouTube Shorts, removing advertisers' need to choose ad placements manually. The second feature employs AI to maximize video ad views for a brand.

Preliminary testing indicates that the new tool will result in a 40% increase average video views. With AI handling the "grunt work," brands can focus more on their marketing strategies and narratives, attaining more specific advertising objectives.

🦅 US Consumer Watchdog, Led by Chopra, Raises the AI-larm

The director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Rohit Chopra, has warned about the potential negative consequences of financial institutions' unrestricted use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools. Particularly concerned about the impact on the housing market and other financial sectors, he suggests that the widespread adoption of AI could considerably transform these industries.

Chopra emphasized the agency's dedication to understanding how the proliferation of artificial intelligence impacts average Americans and the potential dangers of unequal access to credit and financial services.

📀 AI Helps Release The Beatles' Last Song

It looks like we're in for a treat this year - Paul McCartney just announced that a new Beatles tune, with the vocals of the late John Lennon, will be hitting the airwaves soon! The Fab Four's ‘last’ album was made possible with a bit of help from AI, which helped clean up a demo John Lennon had tinkered with- "Now and Then" demo from '78 might be the tune in question!

Director Peter Jackson initially employed AI technology in the 2021 documentary series "The Beatles: Get Back" to separate Lennon's voice from a low-quality cassette recording.

He used the tech to extract Lennon's voice from a not-so-great cassette recording. I'm sure McCartney is both thrilled and nervous about AI in music. He's curious to see where it takes us!

―Brian Christian, The Most Human Human: What Talking with Computers Teaches Us About What It Means to Be Alive

To be human is to be 'a' human, a specific person with a life history and idiosyncrasy and point of view; artificial intelligence suggest that the line between intelligent machines and people blurs most when a puree is made of that identity.

—William James

The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes.
