Stanford and Google researchers undertook an experiment in which they used AI to populate a virtual village to create plausible simulations of human behavior.

The research prompted ChatGPT, a machine learning model, to create agents who consider their surroundings and respond with realistic actions.

The virtual agents were given cues about specific scenarios in an imaginary community and responded as if they were real people.

The researchers employed a hidden text layer to synthesize and arrange the information on each agent. The study has ramifications for human interaction simulations, notably in games and virtual environments.

⚔️ Canva, Meet your Match: Microsoft's Designer Tool Steps Up the Game

Microsoft has made a public preview of their AI-powered design tool, Microsoft Designer, available.

The program, like Canva, allows users to create designs for various uses, including presentations, posters, digital postcards, and social media images.

It generates design concepts using user-generated content and OpenAI's text-to-image AI, DALL-E 2.

The ability to generate written captions and hashtags for social media postings, as well as the production of animated images with AI-powered backgrounds and text transitions, are among the new features.

Microsoft intends to offer further editing options, such as object positioning and backdrop removal, in the future.

Microsoft Designer is free to use during preview and will eventually be included with Microsoft 365 subscriptions.

⚖️ AI Acts Up: EU Proposes Laws for ChatGPT and Other AI Technologies

The European Union (EU) seeks to develop comprehensive legislation to govern generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Companies utilizing AI tools will be compelled to disclose copyrighted content used in developing their systems under the proposed AI Act.

The law intends to address potential AI concerns by categorizing AI technologies based on their estimated risk levels.

While high-risk tools will not be prohibited, they will require high transparency.

The obligation to declare copyrighted information was added to the proposal, replacing an earlier proposal to prohibit the use of copyrighted material completely.

The draft regulation is now being discussed by EU legislators and member states in order to finalize the details.

The goal is to govern AI proportionately to protect citizens' rights, stimulate innovation, and boost the economy. The proposed AI Act by the European Union underscores the necessity to govern the use of generative AI technology to promote ethical and transparent practices.

🗨️ Lost in Translation: ChatGPT's Language Bias Exposed

OpenAI's ChatGPT is more likely to repeat false material in Chinese dialects than in English, according to a report by misinformation watchdog NewsGuard.

ChatGPT performed well in testing when asked questions in English about fabricated accusations about the Chinese government.

Yet, when the model was trained with simplified and traditional Chinese, it consistently produced misleading statements.

This disparity results from language models like ChatGPT relying on patterns in training data to make predictions rather than on innate knowledge.

There is no way to compare phrases or predictions between languages because each language's dataset is unique.

This discovery raises issues regarding biases and beliefs in future language model development and emphasizes the need for caution when deploying AI models in languages other than English.

It stresses the significance of verifying the legitimacy of the data used to inform the model's conclusions.
