✋ Soft and Sensible: The Robotic Link That Feels Your Touch

ProTac, a soft robotic connection with tactile and proximity sensing capabilities created by researchers at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), could let robots communicate with humans safely and enjoyably.

ProTac is a soft, cylindrical robotic arm segment with an outer "soft magic skin" that may be slightly bent by contact without causing injury.

Fisheye cameras are put on both ends of the robotic connection to detect changes in the relative locations of reflecting markers, allowing it to calculate the touch's precise location and intensity and the objects' closeness in its environment.

The researchers also created SimTacLS, an open-source simulation and learning framework that allows them to teach ProTac to make proximity and tactile measures using simulated and experimental data.

Beyond the robotic manipulator illustrated in the article, the proposed methodologies can be applied to various robotic systems.

⚠️ Bot-ched Security: Report Highlights Risks of AI Chatbots to Confidential Information

According to a report by Team8, an Israel-based venture business, companies that use generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies like ChatGPT may expose personal customer information and trade secrets to hackers.

The research found that deploying chatbots could expose businesses to data leaks and lawsuits.

Hackers could use chatbots to obtain access to sensitive corporate information, carry out acts against the organization, or input data into large-language models, leaving proprietary or private data challenging to remove.

Moreover, the research indicates that the dangers are described as "manageable" if sufficient precautions are implemented.

⚔️ A Step Closer: NATO and China to Develop Guidelines for Military AI

NATO is working with China to develop standards for the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) and other disruptive technologies in the military domain.

The alliance intends to develop shared global standards for new technologies through the alliance's AI policy, which includes guidelines for responsible use.

The move comes after the 31-member military alliance officials decided last June to label China a "systemic challenge."

NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg notes that the next stage will be to engage with China on the road rules for responsible use.

❤️ Talk to the Bot: AI Chatbots as Therapy Companions

People are using AI chatbots like ChatGPT for therapy, even though they were not created for this purpose.

Users have discovered that chatbots can enhance traditional mental health treatments by providing a listening ear and emotional release.

Nonetheless, human therapists are concerned about the implications for privacy and the lack of ethical and regulatory constraints.

Furthermore, language models like ChatGPT have been shown to generate convincing-sounding information.

While chatbots will never be able to replace human therapists, they can enhance professional therapy in times of high demand for mental health services.

🧠 Laxis – The Ultimate Brainstorming Buddy

Laxis is a sophisticated meeting assistant tool designed to boost productivity and foster meeting teamwork. This AI-powered tool can record, summarize, and analyze meeting conversations, allowing team members to focus on the discussion rather than taking notes.

🤡 Can a Robot Fool You? The Turing Test Explained

The Turing Test assesses a machine's capacity to demonstrate intelligent behavior indistinguishable from a person's.

A British mathematician and computer scientist, Alan Turing, first proposed it in 1950. The test involves a human assessor having natural language interactions with a machine and a person while not knowing which is which.

If the evaluator cannot reliably discriminate between the machine and the human, the machine is said to have passed the Turing Test.

While the Turing Test is still used as a standard for measuring artificial intelligence, some experts claim that it has limits and does not always evaluate actual intelligence.
